INTERNATIONAL RIGHTS AGENT
RML is recruiting for an exciting opportunity to join our busy and dynamic translations rights team.
RML celebrated its 5th anniversary this year, and in that time we have built an incredible roster of clients that include Sunday Times and internationally bestselling authors across fiction and non-fiction, with names such Elizabeth Day, Jennie Godfrey, Alice Vincent, Bryony Gordon, Sara Collins, Marianne Power, Prof David Nutt and Cathy Rentzenbrink.
RML’s rights team also handles translation rights for several other UK based agencies, including Robert Caskie, 42MP, The Plot Agency, Bergstrom Studio and YMU and work with authors like Sarah Winman, SK Tremayne, Dr Julie Smith and Nicole Vignola to bring their books to international audiences.
We are a small team of ambitious self-starters and we are looking for someone who is driven, happy to work autonomously and identify and pursue commercial opportunities in their part of the business, whilst collaborating and communicating with the team effectively.
The ideal candidate will have several years experience selling translation rights, preferably selling direct to international publishers as well as via co-agents, and a keen interest in the international book market. They will be a voracious reader across a diverse range of genres in fiction and non-fiction and have a keen commercial eye. Languages are a bonus but not essential.
We are a busy team, so excellent organisational and communication skills are essential.
Responsibilities will include:
- Selling translation rights across the whole agency’s list in a variety of territories, and managing co-agents in the territories in which we use them
- Travelling regularly to international book fairs and to visit publishers in their offices outside of book fair season
- Scheduling and organising travel/accommodation for London and Frankfurt book fairs for the agency
- Building and maintaining good relationships with non-RML agents with whom we work
- Dealing with day-to-day client queries re translation rights
- Drafting, negotiating and managing translation rights contracts
- Managing international publications, liaising with clients on publicity requests
Salary commensurate with experience
Hybrid working with at least 2-3 days in our central London office per week.
21 days of holiday per annum (exclusive of public holidays), plus Christmas, fully remote working for August.
Other benefits: Vitality health insurance, pension scheme
